Create soft and cozy seats for yourself and your kids to sit on when playing games or watching TV. This project goes together in a flash and can be as fun and colorful as you like. Great for earning those Girl Scout sewing badges!
Skill Level: Beginner
Time to Complete: 3 Hours
Tools Needed:
Materials Needed:
- Fleece in 2-4 coordinating colors - 1/2 yard each color. (leather works great too!)
- 3/4 for pillow back
- Poly-Fill™ or 20" pillow form (you can also use olda t-shirts cut into strips!)
|
- Using OLFA 45mm rotary cutter with scallop blade, mat, and square ruler, cut a 12 1/2" square from each of four colors of fleece. Take care when cutting and sewing. The fabric does tend to stretch.
- Cut one 25" square of fleece for back of pillow. You may also piece the back in four squares if you wish.
- Set 4 blocks of fleece in checkerboard fashion, 2 blocks on top, 2 blocks on the bottom. Stitch together using a 1/2" seam allowance and a stretch or zig-zag stitch. You may also serge the squares together using a flatlock stitch for a decorative look.
- With wrong sides together, stitch fron pillow panel to back using a 2 1/2" seam allowance, yes, a 2 1/2" seam allowance. Leave an 8" opening on one side for stuffing.
- Fringe outer flanges of pillow using a scallop blade on your OLFA 45mm rotary cutter and 6 1/2" ruler. Space fringe cuts approximately 1/4" apart, being careful not to cut through stitching.
- Stuff pillow with Poly-fil™ or pillow form. Stitch opening closed. Toss and enjoy!
