- Trace hand on paper; see pattern at the right. Cut out. The pattern is basically a mitten shape without the thumb, plus a cuff. Approximate finished size for an average size hand: 5-3/4" wide by 10-1/4" long.
- Cut two layers of fabric 15" x 15".
- Cut ten layers of fabric 13" x 13".
- Stack and center five smaller squares on larger squares. You will have two stacks, one for the front of the mitt, one for the back.
- Using ruler and marker, draw a bias line through the center of the squares. This is your first line of stitching.
- Stitch 1/4" channels throughout, on the bias, using first line as your guide.
- Cut channels with Chenille Cutter using M (1/4") channel guide.
- Rinse fabric in water, brush, and dry in dryer. Brush again to fluff. Fabric will be slightly distorted because you are working on the bias. Straighten and smooth with your hands before continuing.
- Place pattern on top of fabric, trace, and cut out mitt shape with rotary cutter.
- Stitch one side seam.
- Hem top cuff by folding over 1/2" to inside and topstitching.
- Attach elastic to inside of mitt, 4" down from the top, stretching to fit.
- With right sides together, stitch mitt front to back. Reinforce with second row of stitching inside the first. Trim seam allowance if desired.
- Turn inside out and you are on your way to smoother skin!
