If you use one of the standard trapezoid-blade utility knives, most likely you’re limited in blade choices. And with just two fresh cutting edges, changing blades becomes a tiresome part of the job. But contractors in the field working on heavy-duty projects know standard blades severely limit your cutting options.

That’s why OLFA 18mm heavy-duty utility knives accommodate six unique, different blade styles so you can match the blade to the demands of any job. Here’s a list of OLFA 18mm utility-knife blades and the jobs each one excels at.

OLFA uses a special sharpening process to hone 18mm Silver Snap-Off Blades so they are sharp right out of the package. The sharp edge requires less cutting effort and our high-grade carbon steel provides longer blade life. The eight-segment 18mm blade allows you to quickly grab pliers, snap off the dull section at a score line, and continue working without stopping for a tedious blade change. And when all cutting edges are used, the blade can be changed without any tools. The Silver Snap-Off Blade is available in three refill sizes: 5-pack (LB-5B), 10-pack (LB-10B) and 50-pack (LB-50B).

Top 18mm Silver Snap-Off Blade Uses: Use these blades to quickly and easily cut most construction materials, such as:

  • Drywall
  • Flooring
  • Insulation
  • Linoleum
  • Roofing

Some jobs require an extremely sharp edge to achieve a crisp clean cut. The OLFA 18mm Black Ultra-Sharp Snap-Off Blade is specifically designed for those jobs. It’s made from high-quality carbon tool steel and double-honed to achieve a 25% sharper cutting edge than standard OLFA Snap-Off Blades. The sharper blade glides through thin, damp, delicate and cut-resistant materials with less effort. The sharper edge also reduces drag to provide greater maneuverability while making precision cuts.

The eight-segment blade also reduces blade changes to increase productivity when working with these materials. At the first sign of drag, simply snap off the dull segment and continue cutting. The 18mm Black Ultra-Sharp Snap-Off Blade is available in three refill sizes: 5-pack (LBB-5B)10-pack (LBB-10B) and a 50-pack (LBB-50B) .

Top 18mm Black Ultra-Sharp Snap-Off Blade Uses: Use these blades to cut with precision, or through more challenging materials, such as:

  • Carpet
  • Gasket materials
  • Molded plastics (deburring)
  • Protection films
  • Rubber
  • Wall coverings
  • Wire insulation
  • Wood and vinyl trim

Hook blades are used to cut all the way through heavy construction materials in a single pass while protecting the material under the cut. Simply hook the material with the blade and pull the knife along the cut line. When cutting effort increases as a blade dulls, simply snap off the blade segment for a fresh cutting edge. Each blade contains four cutting segments (twice as many as traditional hook blades), so you increase your productivity by performing fewer blade changes. And when a blade change is necessary, the OLFA no-tool blade-change system saves valuable time.

The 18mm Snap-Off Hook Blade is available in 5-packs (LH-20B).

Top 18mm Snap-Off Hook Blade Uses: Use these blades to protect what’s below when cutting materials, such as:

  • Roofing shingles
  • Carpet
  • Engineered flooring underlayment
  • Industrial films
  • Linoleum
  • Underlayment
  • Vapor barriers
  • Water and ice membrane

The OLFA 18mm Solid Blade is designed to cut through thick materials like fiberglass insulation and foam insulation board, or piles of thinner materials, without the fear of blade snapping. And, you can extend this blade its full length to reach into tight cutting spaces. The 18mm Solid Blade has the same cutting edge sharpness as the segmented blade, so it’s perfect for general use or for cutting construction materials.

The OLFA 18mm Solid Blade is available in 10-packs (LSOL-10B).

Top Solid Blade Uses: Use this blade, fully extended, to safely cut thick materials, such as:

  • Fiberglass insulation
  • Flooring
  • Foam insulation board
  • Insulation
  • Linoleum
  • Piles of thinner materials

The NEW OLFA 18mm Speed Blade incorporates a special coating to reduce drag. The sharper edge and special coating dramatically reduces cutting effort and speeds up cutting. The 18mm Speed Blade cuts through cardboard twice as fast as an OLFA Silver Snap-off Blade. In fact, users notice the faster speed and reduced cutting force immediately. Reduced cutting effort translates into less fatigue and greater productivity. The 18mm Speed Blade is perfect for commercial and industrial applications where high productivity and lower user fatigue is paramount.

The OLFA 18mm Speed Blade is available in 10-packs (LFB-10B).

Top Speed Blade Uses: Productivity is the name of the game with this blade. Use this blade to reduce cutting effort and fatigue, improve productivity, and increase workplace safety while cutting materials, such as:

  • Large volumes of corrugated materials
  • Repeated cutting of stacked materials

The NEW OLFA 18mm Insulation Blade incorporates a serrated cutting edge to quickly and easily cut through thick insulating materials. The wave edge is designed to reduce drag and make a quick clean cut in a single pass, eliminating the need for multiple cuts in thick materials.

The OLFA 18mm Insulation Blade is available in 3-packs (LWB-3B).

Top Insulation Blade Uses: This specialized blade is well suited for cutting thick materials, such as:

  • Fiberglass and glass-wool insulation batting
  • Polystyrene foam board
