Meet Cindy Keery! Cindy is an avid quilter, designer and bag maker. She currently has several PDF patterns available for sale online including a chevron quilt, an applique baby quilt and a paper piecing tutorial for beginners. She also knits, crochets and designs hat patterns that are sold as PDFs on Etsy and Ravelry. Cindy's blog is called "Creating at Home". Stop over and give her a visit!

Cindy is especially active in quilting – specifically mini quilts! Since becoming very involved in the Instagram quilting community, she’s come to realize that mini quilt swaps are HUGE and a great way to get connected to this community.

Cindy, tell us a little more…

Hello! Thanks so much for the opportunity to design a mini quilt for you. It’s been a lot of fun coming up with this simply cute quilt. I encourage you to give this easy pattern a try and please let me know if you do. I’d love to see your finished quilts!  (Share your images using #hellominiquilt)

What is your favorite OLFA tool & why?
The frosted rulers are my favorite OLFA tool because the measurement lines allow you to line up the ruler on the fabric with such precision and they don’t slip!

What is your favorite OLFA rotary cutter & why?
I am in love with the Aqua splash, because Hello! Aqua. I have tried all of the different sizes and they all cut beautifully, but cutting with the aqua one just makes me happy.

What size ruler could you not live without?
I use the 6”x12” ruler for just about everything. That is the size I bought when I first started quilting. It’s definitely a high use tool in my sewing room and one I would not care to live without.

Which comes first: the pattern or the fabric?
I’m usually drawn to a pattern first and then seek out just the right fabric for the project. Although, I have been known to buy fabric for no reason and then will design a quilt around it.

What important piece of advice would you offer someone on the brink of quilting?
Take a beginner quilting class! It was the best thing I ever did when starting to quilt. You’ll save yourself from a lot of mistakes and frustrations by learning from a pro.

From where (or whom) do you draw inspiration?
Lately, I get a lot of creative inspiration from Instagram. It’s definitely my social media of choice right now. I love the connections made there with like-minded individuals and all the swapping is a lot of fun, too. The first swap I joined was the Schnitzel and Boo Mini Quilt Swap. That is what inspired me to make the mini quilt pattern for OLFA!

Curious about trying a mini quilt? It is a great way to get started, or to try out a new quilting technique. Whether you want to try out machine quilting yourself, or maybe you’ve always wanted to hand quilt, but the size of a full quilt was too intimidating? A mini quilt is a great place to start.

With the small size (and accompanying lower cost for supplies and quicker time to complete), it is also a great choice when you want to make someone just a little something.
