This quilt design was created for us by Amanda Herring, the Designer Spotlight for April. Amanda designed this easy quilt pattern to show off your favorite fabrics. It is super quick to put together, and just might become your go-to pattern!

BEFORE YOU START

  • All instructions assume a 1/4″ seam allowance.
  • Finished quilt is approximately 60.5″ square.
  • Read thoroughly through the instructions and fabric requirements before beginning.  Materials list below assumes a different fabric for each row, as seen in photograph.

SKILL LEVEL

Beginner

TOOLS NEEDED

Rotary Cutter (Suggestion: RTY-2/C)
Rotary Cutting Mat (Suggestion: RM-MG)
6″x24″ Acrylic Ruler (QR-6×24)

MATERIALS

3 yds Cream fabric (or other neutral for background)
3 Fat quarters (Fabrics 1, 7, and 11 in instructions below)
1/4 yd of (5) different fabrics (Fabrics 2, 3, 6, 9, and 10 in instructions below)
1/2 yd of (3) different fabrics (Fabrics 4, 5, and 8 in instructions below)
1/2 yd of fabric for binding
3-3/4 yds of fabric for backing (measure finished quilt top to verify size of backing fabric needed)

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

  1. From cream fabric cut:
    (4) 6” x 22.5” strips (rows 1 and 9)
    (4) 6” x 17” strips (rows 2 and 8)
    (4) 6” x 11” strips (rows 3 and 7
    (4) 6” x 6” strips (rows 4 and 6)
    (6) 6” x width of fabric strips (borders)
  2. From eleven coordinating fabrics cut: 
    Fabric 1- (1) 6” x 6” strip (row 1)
    Fabric 2- (1) 6” x 17” strip (row 2)
    Fabric 3- (1) 6” x 29” strip (row 3)
    Fabric 4- (2) 6” x 17” strips (row 4)
    Fabric 5- (2) 6” x 17” strips (row 5)
    Fabric 6- (4) 6” x 6” strips (rows 4, 5, and 6, light grey squares in diagram)
    Fabric 7- (1) 6” x 6” strips (row 5)
    Fabric 8- (2) 6” x 17” strips (row 6)
    Fabric 9- (1) 6” x 29” strip (row 7)
    Fabric 10- (1) 6” x 17” strip (row 8)
    Fabric 11- (1) 6” x 6” strip (row 9)
  3. Following the diagram, sew each row together. 

     

  4. Following the diagram, sew the rows together to make the center of the quilt. 

     

  5. Sew the (6) 6” x width of fabric strips together, end to end, making one long strip.
  6. Measure through the center of the quilt from the top to the bottom. Using this measurement, cut two strips from the long strip made in step 5. Sew to each side of the quilt. 

     

  7. Measure through the center of the quilt from side to side. Using this measurement, cut two strips from the remaining strip from step 5. Sew to the top and bottom of the quilt. 

     

  8. Quilt and bind!!!
