February Designer Spotlight: Trish Preston

The February Designer Spotlight is Trish Preston. Trish is the woman behind Two Peas in a Pod Homegrown Designs, LLC. (Check it out here!) She also just released her first book (Because I Love You Sew), which is all about sewing for family and friends, and putting your heart into special projects.

Trish is a sewing enthusiast & designer from Columbus, OH. In her own words:

My husband and I have been blessed with 3 beautiful daughters, our two peas, 13 year old twins and our third pea, who we call Sprout, is 6 years old. My kids are all active in 4H and we raise sheep. Along with our sheep, we are avid gardeners and when we are lucky, enjoy eating an abundance of wonderful foods from our own mini farm.  I love being an active advocate and voice for agriculture in Ohio and the sheep industry. When I’m not sewing or running the kids around town for their activities, I work a day job in higher education. I am addicted to coffee and chai tea. I’m also an outdoor lover, self proclaimed tree hugger and would someday like to see the Giant Red Woods in the Pacific West (it’s on my bucket list).

Here are a few more insights we had fun learning about Trish!

What is your favorite OLFA tool & why?
Without question, my rotary cutter. I use it for virtually every project because it is fast, efficient and accurate.

When do you do your most creative work?
I am a morning person. I often doodle or draw late at night and then dream about those ideas. I wake up and put them into action in the morning when the sun is shining.

Which comes first: the pattern or the fabric?
Pattern. I’m actually awful at following patterns which is how I started out writing my own. Fabric comes next as it adds the texture and life to the idea.

Are you as clever in the kitchen as you are in your sewing space?
I enjoy cooking and I’m not going to lie, I am the world’s best soup maker according to my family and friends.

Is there a time of year that you barely touch needle & thread?
Summer through county fair time. We get very busy with the kids’ 4H projects and showing livestock at the state fair and county.

What is something most people would be surprised to know about you?
Most people are quite surprised when they hear I spent the first 12 years of my career after college as a park police officer and deputy sheriff.

Trish created an adorable project for us to share. These hot pads will come in handy when things heat up in the kitchen! Can’t you see making them as a present for someone special, or making up a couple to add a festive flair to your own kitchen this month?
