STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

We’ll begin by making the purple side of the table runner:

  1. Using the rotary cutter, ruler and mat and purple fabric, cut out the following:

* 3 panels measuring 8.5” x 9.5” each (Panel A).

* 3 panels measuring 8” x 9.5” each (Panel B; set these aside for now.)

  1. Using your Strip A accent fabric, cut out 3 strips measuring 2.5” x 9.5” each.
  2. Using your Strip B accent fabric, cut out 6 strips measuring 2.5” x 9.5” each. Set all Strip B pieces aside.
  3. Take one Panel A and cut in half along the 8.5” side, so you now have two pieces measuring 4.25 ” x 9.5” each.
  4. Place each of these 4.25” x 9.5” pieces on either side of one Strip A, so all 9.5” edges align. Pin and sew together.

  5. Repeat Steps 4-5 with remaining two Panel A pieces. Set aside.
  6. Take one Panel B, measure 2” in from each outer edge, along the 8” side and cut apart, so you now have two pieces that measure 2” x 9.5” and a center piece measuring 4” x 9.5”.
  7. Place a Strip B between each 2”x 9.5” piece and the centerpiece, so all 9.5” edges align. Pin and sew together.

  8. Repeat Steps 7-8 with remaining two Panel B pieces. Set aside.
  9. This completes all components for the purple side of the table runner. Set all sewn panels aside.
  10. Repeat Steps 1-9, replacing all purple background fabric for gray background fabric, all Strip A accent fabric for Strip C accent fabric and all Strip B accent fabric for Strip D accent fabric.

You will now have the following fully pieced panels:

  • 3 – One-Strip Purple Panels (P1)
  • 3 – Two-Strip Purple Panels (P2)
  • 3 – One-Strip Gray Panels (G1)
  • 3 – Two-Strip Gray Panels (G2)
  1. Sandwich one P1 panel and one G2 panel together face-to-face. Add quilt batting layer on top.
  2. Sew all the way around, leaving a 1 ½” opening along one side. Trim off corners.
  3. Flip right side out. Iron flat. Hand sew opening closed with ladder stitch.
  4. Repeat Steps 12- 14 with two remaining P1 and G2 panels. Set aside.
  5. Repeat Steps 12-14, replacing all P1 panels for P2 panels and all G2 panels for G1 panels. You will now have six finished double-sided padded panels.
  6. With all purple panels facing up and alternating between P1 and P2 panels, use a ladder stitch to hand sew and “hinge” them all together. Your Jacob’s ladder Reversible Table Runner is complete and ready to use!
