Tammy Silvers is a flexible, diverse quilt designer, who likes tradition with a twist. We had the opportunity to meet her and chat, and are so glad we did! Tammy’s blog is called “Tamarinis”, and can be found here.

Tammy describes herself as:

…a quilt designer – but honestly, that’s just because I have a bit of an obsession with quilting! I love that quilting offers such a variety of expression, from fabric to color to style, and it has something for everyone. And you can snuggle up under your self expression – how awesome is that?!

We asked Tammy a few more questions about her favorite tools, habits and quilting advice. Here’s what she had to say.

What is your favorite OLFA tool & why?

Do I have to pick just one? I love the scissors; super sharp, and the finger grips are large enough to be comfortable through a large amount of cutting. And the ergonomic cutters are easy to use and really do reduce wrist fatigue.

What size ruler could you not live without?

My 24″ long ruler. Absolutely necessary to make those first cuts. And if it was the one ruler I was stranded on a desert island with, I could still cut other sizes and shapes and quilt away!

What is the unsung hero of your sewing box?

My seam ripper! It saves my projects every time.

When do you do your most creative work?

I’m just getting going around 9pm, which makes early mornings a bit of a bummer. And crazy as it sounds, I get my best ideas in the shower!

What is the dominant color in your stash?

Turquoise. It has become my go-to color. I really should expand my range, but why when turquoise goes with everything?

What important piece of advice would you offer someone on the brink of quilting?

Do it! You’ll love it. Really! Quilting is relaxing, energizing, exciting, expressive, warm, snuggly, and completely awesome!
